Robotic Roundup

Robots can seem to be everywhere these days, from laparoscopic surgery to personal assistants, flying like a bird and snapping some rare pictures. Robots are becoming an essential part of human life. The word robot can refer to physical robots and virtual software agents, but we will look into physical robots here.

So here’s a roundup of some popular robotic projects made to make human lives easier.

MIT’s biomimetic robotics lab had designed a robot, Robot cheetah, inspired by African cat cheetah. A robot with this manoeuvrability and durability will play a key role in search and rescue operations by finding the people in distress, locating the victim, and notifying the authorities. The Robo cheetah is very flexible and has a frame made of durable plastic. High torque electric motors are attached to drive the gears at the hip joint. Scientists hope to make a Robot cheetah available for a police department in a decade.

Boston dynamics’ robot dog is now commercially available after a series of pilot testing. This robot is fitted with an image capturing camera and laser scanners. It can patrol on a predetermined pathway through a Jobsite and navigate in a difficult course. This machine is designed to provide frequent data and up-to-date images of an as-built site.

MIT’s insect-sized drones weigh roughly the size of a bumblebee. They are built with soft actuators made from carbon nanotube coated rubber cylinders. The actuators elongate when elasticity is applied, and it causes the wings to beat and the drone to take flight. These insect-sized drones are built to survive mid-air collisions.

These robotic technologies influence our lives and can easily transform our lives and work practices with a high safety level, positively increasing efficiency and productivity. Robots can produce high-quality work without any break in a normal as well as hazardous environment.
